Part 2: Express Installation

Express Install

The Express installation process is recommended when you want to complete an installation in the quickest and simplest manner. It is described in the following topics:

Overview

The Express installation process is recommended when you want to complete an installation in the quickest and simplest manner.

The Express installation is performed through ICE (for detailed information about ICE, see Installing INCONTROL products with ICE). If necessary, it is always possible to perform customization through ICE after the Express installation process has been completed.

If you want to perform a customized installation, with user input required at each step, use the installation process described for each specific product.

If you have begun an Express installation, you can still switch over to the customized installation process. The major steps that were completed during the Express installation are marked with an asterisk (*) in the customized installation. The minor steps that were completed during the Express installation are marked "COMPLETED" in the customized installation.

However, once you have begun the customized installation process, you cannot switch in the middle of it to the Express installation.

An IOA environment must exist before you can proceed with the product installation. If no IOA environment exists, the Express installation begins with Navigating within ICE.

If you are planning to clone this environment in the future, it is important that you understand the requirements and limitations of the cloning process before you begin the installation process. For more information, see Limitations.

Products not licensed for your installation are not available for installation.

Control-M/Links for z/OS is a separately licensed product that enables customers to use Control‑O functions to assist with Control‑M operations. To install Control‑M/Links follow the instructions for installing Control-O.

The Express installation can be implemented by either of the following modes:

  • interactively

  • from a file

In situations where many similar installations are required, you can perform the first installation interactively. You can afterwards use the file-controlled mode for the other installations. To use the file-controlled mode, you must first modify the IOAFLINS file, which Express automatically generated during the first installation, with the correct prefixes for the new installation.

Since the Express installation is designed to be a highly automated process, based on best practices, it only requires the following minimum amount of information:

  • specify the IOA environment name

  • select the INCONTROL products that you want to be installed

  • select how much capacity you need for the INCONTROL products

  • specify a data set name format

You have the option of specifying other parameters, but you can proceed with the installation using the defaults provided.

For installation planning sheets for the Express installation, see Express Installation Sheet.

Getting Started

This procedure describes how to get started, using the Express Installation.

Begin

  1. On the main ICE panel, select Installation.

  2. When prompted, select or create an environment.

  3. When prompted, select Express installation.

Details about the Express installation procedures are provided on the Express installation panels and in the online Help.

Post-installation

The following mandatory post-installation activities are required regardless of which implementation mode is used:

  • APF authorization

  • application of security to INCONTROL products

  • specification of passwords for INCONTROL products

  • definition of a VTAM application for the online monitors

  • Add CTJTSO and CTJTONL to the list of authorized programs listed in both the AUTHPGM and AUTHTSF sections in the IKJTSOxx member, located in the SYS1.PARMLIB library. Make sure the change is activated using the T IKJTSOxx operator command.
