This procedure describes how to create a new local Workload Policy. The rules within the Workload Policy define a restriction or special attribute for the jobs associated with the Workload Policy. For example, rules can limit the usage of resources by the jobs in the Workload Policy and the number of jobs that can run concurrently. Each of the various rules in the Workload Policy includes a time period for when to enforce the rule.
- On the IOA Primary Option menu, select option W.
The Workload Management Entry Panel is displayed. For more information about this screen, see Workload Management Entry Panel.
- Specify option WL (locally-managed Workload Policies), and press Enter.
The Control-M Local Workload Policies List screen is displayed. For more information about this screen, see Workload Policies List screen for Local Workload Policies.
- Perform one of the following actions:
- In the command line, enter ADD <Workload_Policy_name> for a new, undefined Workload Policy.
- In the OPT field next to a defined Workload Policy that you want to copy, type I (Insert) and press Enter.
The Policy: <Policy name> screen is displayed. For more information about this screen, see Policy: screen.
- In the WORKLOAD POLICY NAME field, enter or (optionally) modify the name for the Workload Policy.
- In the STATUS field, set the activity status of the Workload Policy:
- For the Workload Policy to be active immediately after you save it, enter A (ACTIVE).
- To keep the new Workload Policy inactive until a later time, ensure that the this field is set to I (INACTIVE).
- In the Policy Filter section, define a combination of job attributes that determine which jobs are included in the Workload Policy.
You must define at least one job attribute.
For information about the parameters in this section, see Filter Parameters.
- Through the Policy Rules section, define any number of rules using the parameters described in Rule Parameters.
In each rule you set the following settings:
- Type of rule — R (to limit the usage of a resource), J (to limit the number of concurrent jobs), or S (to run jobs separately from specific other jobs)
- For rules of type R or J: Allowed number of the resource that you specify or allowed number of concurrent jobs
- For rules of type S: Names of Workload Policies whose jobs (if running) block the execution of jobs of the current Workload Policy
- Times or time periods when the rule is applied, based on the parameters described in Scheduling parameters in a Workload Policy rule
- Load-Index threshold level for applying the rule
- A bypass setting based on how close jobs are to their DUE-IN time
- Press PF3 to exit the Workload Policies List screen and save your changes. Note that changes are not saved until you exit this screen.
You can choose between saving locally (Option 2) and saving and applying to the active environment (Option 3). Only Workload Policies in Active status are applied.
To exit without saving your changes, choose Option 1.
