Managing workload using Workload Policies

Through the Workload Management facility, you can set up Workload Policies to control, manage, and balance the workload on Control-M resources. Workload Policies enable you to

A Workload Policy consists of a group of jobs that share various attributes in their job definitions. You can divide any or all of the jobs in your Control-M production environment into multiple Workload Policies, based on various combinations of job attributes. Within each Workload Policy you define multiple rules that control the workload during specific time periods.

Workload policies enable you to quickly affect the job processing of a large number of jobs without having to manually change the job definitions in each individual job. Workload Policy rules control the load of jobs on LPARs during specific time periods. For example, rules can limit the resources that the associated jobs can consume and the number of jobs that are allowed to run. Within each rule you specify time periods for when to enforce these rules on the jobs in production. This prevents the jobs that you included in the Workload Policy and are eligible for submission from taking control of all available resources and preventing other jobs from running.

Note: You can also use Workload Policies to ensure that critical jobs with quantitative resources bypass the resource limitations defined in the Workload Policies.

The Workload Management facility enables you to manage local Workload Policies (created here in Control-M for z/OS) and view global Workload Policies (from Control-M/EM).

The following procedures describe how to manage Workload Policies:
