Running the emwacli utility

This procedure describes how to run the emwacli utility which enables you to run promotion as a batch process.

Before you begin

Ensure the following:

• You have created a promotion rule, as described in Promotion rules.
• If the target environment is in a different Control-M/EM, do the following on both the source and target environments:
  • Activate Control-M Workload Change Manager
  • Match the SSL configuration
  • Match the CJK parameters (if applicable)
• (Optional) Create a param_file, as described in param_file.

To run the emwacli utility:

1. Open a command prompt window where Control-M/EM is installed. You do not need to be in the Control-M/EM database directory.
2. Type one of the following commands:
   • emwacli -action promote [-nshost <naming server> -nsport <naming server port> -s <GSR name> -u <user> [-p <password>] | -pf <password File>] -promotion rule <name of promotion rule> -ru <remote EM user> -rp <remote EM password> -rpf <target user name and password> -ignore warnings <Y/N> -controlm <the name of the server> -folder name <name of the folder> -folder library <name of the folder library> -request name <name of promotion request> -request_ticket <request ticket> -email notification <name of email address> -overwrite <y/n> dbg <debug level> -accept_all <y/n>]
   • If you have created a param-file: emwacli -param_file [name]

     NOTE: Some parameters are mandatory. For more information, see emwacli utility Promotion parameters.

     If any folders in the source environment, which are defined in -controlm, -folder_name, -folder library do not match the promotion rule, the utility exits with an error message.
