Adding an SMFID with CMEM or Control-O installed (when the System Logger is not used)
The method described here enables a new SMFID to be added faster and easier than the method described in Adding, deleting and/or changing an SMFID in the computer list. However, this faster method can only be used if CMEM or Control‑O is installed and the following requirements are met:
Only one SMFID is being added. No deletions, no updates and no other additions are being made.
The new SMFID and its corresponding data sets are added at the end of current lists.
The position and sequence of all existing SMFIDs and data sets remain completely unchanged.
This method can be used only when real SBS2CTM files are used instead of the SYSTEM LOGGER. Ensure that SYSTLOGR=N in IOACPRM.
The advantages of this method are
reduced Control‑O, CMEM, and Control‑M downtime
fewer required actions
Note: If the requirements listed above are not met, or the instructions outlined below are not followed exactly, results may be unpredictable and files may become corrupted. If this occurs, follow the procedure described in Adding, deleting and/or changing an SMFID in the computer list.
To add a new SMFID using this method, perform the following steps:
Perform Step 6.3 – Specify IOA computers (optional) to update the SYSID parameter in the IOACPRM member to match the new configuration. The new SMFID must be added at the end of the current list. The position and values of all previously defined parameters must not be changed.
Note: The Control-O or CMEM monitors must be down only on the new system with the new SMFID. It is not necessary to stop the Control-O or CMEM monitors running on any other system.
Submit the FORMSUB3 job from Control-M JCL library on the new system with the new SMFID. Verify that FORMSUB3 issued the message "+CTM314I ADDING SMFID <smfid> WAS SUCCESSFUL."
Note: FORMSUB3 is required either when adding a new SMFID or when resetting an existing SMFID in the CTM2SBS file, as described in Reformatting communication files for only one SMFID.
Restart the Control‑M monitor.
From a communications file viewpoint, all required actions have been performed. You can start CMEM or Control‑O as soon as you finish installing them in this computer.
