Job Archiving

Organizations that run a large number of production jobs in the z/OS environment usually need to save the system output produced for each job, as written to the job's MSGCLASS output (that is, the job's JES output datasets — JESYSMSG, JESJCL, and JESMSGLG). This output is archived, sometimes for many years, to adhere to audit polices and standards, to meet regulatory requirements, or simply for debugging and troubleshooting purposes. After this output is collected, you need to have the ability to access the archived information based on various attributes, such as specific job names, job steps, or sysout attributes.

This can be accomplished using the Job Archiving facility. For more information about the Job Archiving solution offered by this facility, see Job Archiving solution overview.

The Job Archiving feature involves several steps, as described in the following topics:

  1. Defining the decollation mission
  2. Setting up the CTVJAR utility
  3. Viewing job output
  4. Optimizing the retrieval of MSGCLASS output
