Setting up the CTVJAR utility

Run the CTVJAR utility daily to consolidate the reports produced by the Job Archiving Facility. The CTVJAR utility consolidates all report entries that refer to the same CDAM file and creates a new report with job name ARCHIVE, which includes indexes pointing to each job’s data. This utility increases efficiency by reducing the number of objects that Control-D needs to manage. This is especially important for migrated reports, since they are usually kept for a long period of time.

Input parameters, supplied in the SYSIN dataset, are used to control the processing performed by CTVJAR. A simulated execution mode is available to ensure that processing will produce the desired results. Once the desired results are achieved, the operational mode (PROD) can be specified via the MODE parameter, as in the following example:

//JCLARC EXEC PGM=CTVJAR[,MODE=PROD, TEST]

For a list of CTVJAR SYSIN parameters and a CTVJAR example, see CTVJAR EXEC Statement in the INCONTROL for z/OS Utilities Guide.

After the reports are consolidated, you can use the CTDDELRP utility to perform a daily cleanup of the original report entries and index files. For more information, see CTDDELRP – Delete Reports that are not needed in the INCONTROL for z/OS Utilities Guide.
