Under JES3, three types of output classes are available:

• non‑held class
• held external writer class (HOLD=EXWTR)
• held TSO class (HOLD=TSO)

The characteristics of each class are defined in JES3 INISHDECK. They have no connection with, and no relation to, the expression HOLD=YES|NO in the JCL.

When instructed to read a sysout, Control‑M/Analyzer can read only held output classes. In addition, the expression FREE=CLOSE must be specified in the DD statement that created the output. For details, see the description of the ON CLASS and ON SYSOUT parameters in the Control‑M/Analyzer User Guide. Consider the following for the different held class combinations:

• If Control‑M/Analyzer is running in default mode (meaning, JCL procedure CONTROLB), it can read output from held external writer classes but not from held TSO classes.
• If it is only necessary to read output from held TSO classes, run Control‑M/Analyzer under TSO batch using the supplied JCL procedure CONTRLB3. Due to JES3 restrictions, Control‑M/Analyzer running under TSO cannot read external writer sysouts.

The two methods of running the Control‑M/Analyzer Runtime Environment under JES3 are described below.
