Step 5.2 – Stacking database

Note: Because other installation jobs use these definitions, it is important to perform this step even if you do not intend to activate the Control‑M/Tape Dynamic Data set Stacking facility.

The Stacking Database was called the Stacking Statistics file prior to INCONTROL version. 5.1.4.

The Stacking Database has a data component and an index component.

Enter values for the parameters shown in the following table to calculate the space allocation for the Stacking Database.

Note: When specifying values for parameters or subparameters that include both unit and volser fields, you must either define both the Unit and Volser fields, or leave both of them blank. Do not enter a value for only one of them.

Table 122 Calculating the space allocation for the stacking database

Parameter

Description

Number of data sets processed by Control‑M/ Tape

Insert the total number of data sets that are recorded in the Control‑M/Tape Media Database.

  • Maximum length: 7 digits.

Data component block size

5-digit number that sets the size of data component blocks. Use a multiple of 160.

  • Minimum: 960.
  • Maximum: 32640.
  • Default: 8960.

Note: By increasing the block size you can decrease the number of blocks required, and this will also decrease the number of extents needed.

Index component block size

5 digit number that sets the size of index component blocks.

  • Minimum: 255.
  • Maximum: 27998.
  • Default: 6518.

Note: By increasing the block size you can decrease the number of blocks required, and this will also decrease the number of extents needed.

Main Data

The file data component.

This parameter has the following subparameters:

Unit type – The unit type to which data should be allocated.

Volser – Up to six volsers can be specified.

Main Index

The file index component.

This parameter has the following subparameters:

Unit type – The unit type to which data should be allocated.

Volser – Up to six volsers can be specified.

The space requirements are calculated based on the values you specify.

To apply the allocation that has just been calculated, type Y in the Use this space allocation in subsequent installation steps ? field, and press Enter.

For a description of the space calculation, see Stacking database calculations.
