Functional monitors can be configured for a variety of combinations of IOA environments and Control‑M/Tape installations, as follows:
Single IOA Environment
Only one functional monitor is activated regardless of the number of computers where Control‑M/Tape is running in a single IOA environment. The functional monitor must be activated on the computer that has access to all the required files, libraries, and automated tape library interface.
Multi‑IOA Environment
A functional monitor must be activated in each IOA environment that communicates with Control‑M/Tape.
If Control‑M/Tape is installed in each IOA environment, follow the procedure for a single IOA environment.
If you have only one Control‑M/Tape installation and you have multiple IOA environments, certain members need to be manually updated in each environment in which you set up a functional monitor. For details, see Adjust related members to other IOA environments.
Each functional monitor distributes IOA functions, such as DO SHOUT, DO CONDITION, DO FORCEJOB, DO RESOURCE, and DO COND to the IOA environment in which it is defined. The monitor is also used to communicate with automatic tape libraries (ATLs).
Exit IOAX038 can be used to specify the monitor to be used for each IOA function. This exit is particularly relevant for sites that include a single installation of Control‑M/Tape and multiple IOA environments.
For more information about Exit IOAX038, see the Exits chapter in the INCONTROL for z/OS Administrator Guide.
Note: If your site has only one Control‑M/Tape installed and multiple IOA environments, verify that the CTTQNAM parameter, which supports the sharing of the Control‑M/Tape Database among IOA environments, is defined correctly. For more information about this parameter, see Step 4.2 – IOA operational parameters.
