Global Index Facility (Control-V Only)

The Global Index facility is a Control‑V feature that allows the end-user to select reports for viewing based on the index values found in the Global Index database.

Control‑V maintains a separate index for every report in the Control‑V repository. By selecting reports by a particular index value, the user selects a set of reports, and Control‑V searches all indexes of those reports for the indexes that contain the particular index value.

The Global Index facility maintains the Global Index database. This database contains multilevel index values that point to a list of reports that contain these index values.

Using the Global Index database, you can get a list of multilevel index values and quickly create a Report list using the Hit-list method when you specify index names and values in the selection criteria. Using the Global Index database with the Hit-list method eliminates searching every index file.

For more information on how reports are accessed through the Global Index database, see Accessing Reports Through the Global Index Database.
