Support for SNMPv3 Traps

Control-O and Control-M support SNMPv3 traps by activating the SNMP SUBAGENT feature. When activated, SNMP messages that are generated by DO SNMP statements in Control-O rules or DO SHOUT to U-S statements in Control-M rules, are sent to an SNMP Master Agent.

The SNMP Master Agent is an SNMPD or OSNMPD Server on an OS/390 or z/OS computer, which usually runs on the same mainframe on which Control-O or Control-M resides. Once the messages are received by an SNMP Master Agent, they are forwarded to the SNMP TRAP listeners defined during setup of the SNMP Master Agent.

When the SUBAGENT feature is activated, Control-O and Control-M take on the role of an SNMP sub-agent. Control-O or Control-M send the SNMP traps to the Master Agent, and the Master Agent sends the traps to the SNMP listeners.

The communications between Control-O or Control-M, and the SNMP Master Agent, are carried out by UDP and TCP/IP. The protocol used to communicate with the SNMP Master Agent is the Distributed Protocol Interface (DPI) V1.1.
