Control-M for Web Services, Java, and Messaging overview

Control-M for Web Services, Java, and Messaging (Control-M for WJM) is a comprehensive integration solution, which enables you to expand Control-M job scheduling to on-line and real-time applications.

Control-M for WJM consists of 2 main components:

• Control-M for Web Services, Java, and Messaging application plug-in
• Control-M Web Services and Messaging API

Control-M for Web Services, Java, and Messaging application plug-in uses three application plug-ins to achieve integration:

• Control-M for Java: Enables you to schedule a Java class or a J2EE Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs) running on a J2EE application server (such as IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, JBoss, and SAP NetWeaver).
• Control-M for Web Services: Enables you to schedule standard web services, servlets and RESTful web services through a Control-M for Web Services job type.
• Control-M for Messaging: Enables you to create a job that sends or receives a JMS or IBM WebSphereMQ Series message to another application’s message queue. If sending a message, the job can optionally wait for a response message from the application.

Control-M Web Services and Messaging API complements Control-M for WJM by allowing applications to interface with Control-M in order to request scheduling services such as submitting ad hoc jobs, ordering a group of jobs, raising conditions to trigger job flows, and tracking jobs’ status. These functions are available through the use of a Java API, with both elements of Control-M Web Services and Messaging API. These powerful capabilities enable you to implement true event-based scheduling. Once a business event occurs within an application, it can easily create or order Control-M jobs to process the event through Java, Web Service or messaging.

Before you begin, do the following:

• Install Control-M for WJM, as described in Installation.
• Connect to a relevant server as described in Connection profile management.

Control-M for WJM jobs are integrated with other Control-M jobs into a single scheduling environment. This enables you to control and operate the Control-M for WJM report generation within Control-M and enables you to do the following:

• Define and monitor Control-M for WJM jobs and reports, as described in Job definition.
• Integrate Control-M for WJM jobs with other Control-M jobs into a single scheduling environment, as described in Using Control-M Workload AutomationControl-M.
• Introduce all Control-M capabilities to Control-M for WJM, including advanced scheduling criteria, complex dependencies, quantitative and control resources, and variables, as described in Using Control-M .
