Stage 1 is mandatory (for example, the WRITE or SETKEY function must be performed in preparation for the reconciliation). The WRITE function is performed once on each file. The SETKEY function is performed once for all files simultaneously.

Either Stage 2 or Stage 3 is then performed, depending upon the type of reconciliation.
