General Information for CAPTURE BY

The CAPTURE BY parameter defines the job capture definitions. The capture feature provides a convenient method for extracting data from a job's JES output datasets (JESYSMSG, JESJCL, and JESMSGLG) and sharing the data between jobs. This parameter can be used to search the output of a job for specified text and based on the capture parameters, extract words or characters from the output. The destination of the capture is a Control-M user-defined AutoEdit variable that can be set to any of the following types:

• Local: Defines variables that can be used by other post-processing actions of this job, such as messages, DO action arguments, or a rerun (manual or cyclic) of the job.
• Global: Defines a variable in the IOA Global Variable data base which enables variable sharing between different jobs.
• Pool: Defines variables in a pool. The variable is referenced by the pool name - %%\\<pool_name>\<variable_name>.

  A pool is a collection of variables that can be referenced by name, from any job that is currently active. Using the capabilities of setting variable values at order time and using local variables for the pool names allows the user to pass pre-defined pool names to the jobs at order time or to set values of variables in a pool to be used by the ordered jobs. • Smart Table: Enables other jobs in the table to access the specified variable either in the job during the job run, or in post-processing.
• System variables are not allowed.

User-defined variables can be used to

• Store intermediate values in a series of variable parameters
• Store information to be included in a SHOUT or DO MAIL e-mail message or in a DO REMFORCE variable value.

Global variables can be used to pass information between jobs. For example, job A can set global variable %%A to Yes, and job B can reset %%A to No in response. Resolution of each user variable depends on the specified prefix, and the scope of the specified variable. Each of these concepts is described below.
