General Information for CAPTURE BY

The CAPTURE BY parameter defines the job capture definitions. The capture feature provides a convenient method for extracting data from a job's JES output datasets (JESYSMSG, JESJCL, and JESMSGLG) and sharing the data between jobs. This parameter can be used to search the output of a job for specified text and based on the capture parameters, extract words or characters from the output. The destination of the capture is a Control-M user-defined AutoEdit variable that can be set to any of the following types:

Global variables can be used to pass information between jobs. For example, job A can set global variable %%A to Yes, and job B can reset %%A to No in response. Global variables can also be created and modified using the IOAGLV utility. For more information about this utility, see the INCONTROL for z/OS Utilities Guide.

Resolution of each user variable depends on the specified prefix, and the scope of the specified variable. Each of these concepts is described below.
