Step 5.5 – IOA log file space calculation

The IOA LOG File Space Calculation screen (shown in the following figure) enables you to specify values to calculate the required space allocation.

Note: The IOA LOG file is a wrap-around file. Failure to allocate the Log with sufficient space may cause essential messages to be overwritten and lost. For example, if SPY281 messages are lost, then the Control-M Statistics file may be missing the statistics for the most recent job occurrences.

 COMMAND ===>

Enter or change values and press Enter.

 Examine the resulting space requirements.

Use this space allocation in subsequent installation steps ? ==>      (Y/N)

Numbers specified must conform to your sites's peak work load.

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Number of days to retain LOG records  ==> 7

CTM/CTR     Maximum Number of jobs per day        ==> 10000

CTD         Maximum Number of jobs per day        ==> 1000

CTO/CMEM    Number of rules ORDERED per day       ==> 1000

CTB         Number of rules invoked per day       ==> 20

 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Enter the Block Size to be used for the IOA LOG file, Valid values are:

6200  The standard block size prior to version 6.2.00

23400  The optimum block size for 3380 DASD devices

27800  The optimum block size for 3390 DASD devices

Allocation : Number of blocks  =  130000        (ILBLKNO)

Number of records =  224200        (LOGSIZE)

              Block Size        =  27800         (ILBLKSZ)

              3380 Tracks       =  130000      3390 Tracks       =  65000

Note: You can choose the block size of the IOA LOG file. Also, if you choose a large block size you will increase performance when accessing the IOA LOG file.

If you are going to install Control‑M, Control‑M/Restart or Control‑D, specify the maximum number of jobs to be submitted each day.

If you are going to install Control‑M/Analyzer, Control‑O or the CMEM facility of Control‑M, specify the maximum number of Control‑M/Analyzer, Control‑O or CMEM rules to be processed each day.

Note: These values should meet the requirements of INCONTROL products that you plan to install in the future, using the same IOA environment.

The following parameters are calculated by ICE using the numbers specified:

Table 23 IOA LOG file space calculation procedure

Field

Description

ILBLKNO

Number of blocks to be allocated for the IOA LOG file.

LOGSIZE

Number of records of the IOA LOG file.

ILBLKSZ

IOA LOG block size. Setting a large block size improves the IOA LOG performance, as well as DASD utilization. Choose a block size according to the DASD type that will be used. Mandatory.

3380 Tracks

Number of 3380-type tracks for the IOA LOG file.

3390 Tracks

Number of 3390-type tracks for the IOA LOG file.
