Printing to e-mail

Print mission output can be directed to the MVS SMTP Gateway for distribution of reports through e-mail, as follows:

1. Add a logical printer to the CTDPARM member, specifying SMTP as the destination and MAIL as the printer type.
2. Specify the name of this logical printer in the PRINTER field of the Print Mission Definition screen.
3. (optional) Change mail headers and footers by customizing the $MREPSTA and $MREPEND members in the IOA BANNERS library.
4. Use the ADDRESS field in the Control‑D Recipient Definition screen to define the e-mail address of each recipient to be reached by e-mail.

   Once defined according to this procedure, print missions working on the MAIL logical printer send sysouts to the SMTP spool destination. The SMTP Gateway retrieves these sysouts and processes them according to the mail headers in the $MREPSTA and $MREPEND members.

   The workflow of e-mail print missions has the following characteristics:

   • Each report is put into a separate chunk.
   • There is no chunk control, that is, there is no waiting until previous chunks have been selected by a JES printer.
   • Control-D banner exit CTDX003 prints only the report start and end banners, which are taken from the $MREPSTA and $MREPEND members. Other banners are skipped.
   • Banner text is not shifted one position to the right.
   • Block letters are not produced.
5. To attach text reports to e-mails, do the following in the IOA BANNERS library:
   1. Rename $MREPSTA to something neutral (for example, $MREPOLD).
   2. Rename $MREPSTT to $MREPSTA.
