Problem Determination using the Internal Trace Facility

IOA provides an internal Trace facility that can print internal trace records and the contents of internal data areas. Under normal circumstances, the Trace facility is dormant. However, if required (that is, BMC Customer Support has requested trace information), the Trace facility can be activated.

To use the Control‑M internal Trace facility, issue the following operator command:

F CONTROLM,TRACE=level

where level indicates trace levels to be activated or deactivated. The Control‑M Trace facility has 128 levels (that is, from 1 through 128). Any number of these levels can be on at a given time. Valid values are

Depending on which trace levels were turned on, trace information is written to one or more of the following locations:

When you finish performing the problem determination procedures, use the following operator command to turn off all trace levels:

F CONTROLM,TRACE=(-1:-128)

Control‑M performance trace data can also be accumulated and processed in conjunction with the IOA Internal Trace facility. For more information, see Chapter 2, "IOA Administration."
