Messages in a SYSPLEX Environment

Depending on the system configuration of a SYSPLEX environment, a message may be sent to another system. The SYSPLEX definition requires that at least one active console that is eligible to receive the message will be on the receiving system. This is done in order to reduce the overhead of distributing the message to too many systems unnecessarily.

Messages from another system are not logged in the system SYSLOG. They are logged on the SYSLOG of the original system and on the OPERLOG, if in use.

Control-O calls a message from another system a REISSUED message. The IBM term for such a message is a reissued or foreign message.

Control-O rules can be triggered for a reissued message only if the SYSTEM field in the ON MESSAGE, ON STRING, ON JOBARRIV, and ON JOBEND statements are set.

If the SYSTEM field is not set, the current system is assumed and therefore only messages from the current system will trigger the rule.

Control-O logs reissued messages in the Automation Log only if a rule is triggered for the reissued message.

In order to identify a reissued message, the following fields in the Automation Log should be set:
