Updating AutoEdit Variable Databases

Use one of the following operator commands to update an AutoEdit variable database with the current status of the AutoEdit variables in memory:

• If Control‑O is not installed, use

  F CTMCMEM,WRITEGLOBAL[=dbname]

• If Control‑O is installed, use

  F CONTROLO,WRITEGLOBAL[=dbname]

  where dbname indicates the databases to be updated. Valid values:

  • name - Name of a specific database to be updated.
  • ALL - All databases (and, if using Control‑O, members) listed in the concatenation referenced by DD statement DAGLBLST are updated.
  • <none> - Only member $GLOBAL, the default member, is updated.

If command WRITEGLOBAL is used to update a database, only variables that have been modified are written to the database files, enabling more efficient use of computer resources.

Note that for the IOAVAR database, CMEM or Control-O automatically issues the WRITEGLOBAL command after changes are made to the database in-memory, to ensure that the disk version is up-to-date.
