Separate IOAGATE gateways can connect one application to another. Control-O and Control-M/JCL Verify currently use this method of communication to enable one Control-x (Control-O or Control-M/JCL Verify monitor - CTJMON) application to pass information to another Control-x application, each using a separate IOAGATE gateway. For Control-O, this connection uses either the SNA or TCP/IP protocol. For Control-M/JCL Verify this connection uses the TCP/IP protocol.
Throughout this section Control-O is used to demonstrate this method of communication – though everything described is true for Control-M/JCL Verify as well other than where stated otherwise.

IOAGATE must be able to discern whether it is connecting to another IOAGATE gateway or directly to another application server. This is done by network mapping.
