General Information

This parameter specifies the length of time the backup should be retained. A nonzero value must be specified for either # OF DAYS TO KEEP or # OF GENERATIONS TO KEEP, but not both.

Note: For information about requirements and restrictions when changing from # OF GENERATIONS TO KEEP to # OF DAYS TO KEEP, see the Control-D and Control-V chapter of the INCONTROL for z/OS Administrator Guide.

Utility CTDCLHST produces a list of all backups whose # OF DAYS has expired. These "out of date" backups are then automatically deleted or uncataloged.

Utility CTDUPBKP can be used to update the number of generations of report backups and backup volume serial numbers in History and Active User files. For information about utility CTDUPBKP, see the INCONTROL for z/OS Utilities Guide.
