The IOA Archive server provides services for viewing and printing reports migrated to storage media other than DASD.
Control-V migrates reports in compressed format from DASD to various storage media, including DASD. Reports migrated to DASD can be viewed without activating and using the IOA Archive server. Reports and indexes migrated to other storage media use the IOA Archive server for online viewing and Immediate Printing.
The IOA Archive server:
Supports various media types based on user definitions.
Responds to operator commands that modify media definitions during server operation to increase or decrease the service level or free resources for other jobs.
Permits stopping and starting a media defined to the server without affecting ongoing work on other media.
Supports concurrent requests to the same or a different media type.
Implements queuing and synchronization mechanisms to optimize service level, improve media utilization, and reduce volume switch requests.
Provides an internal caching mechanism to reduce media accesses and improve response time.
Uses cross memory services to communicate with address spaces requesting its services.
