Allocation Options

To overcome potential resource problems when handling MSGCLASS outputs, we use a special CDAM control parameter called ALLOCOPT. This parameter can only be used when decollating output from the spool. It tells Control-D to store the output retrieved from the spool in a special way. Instead of creating one CDAM file per JES dataset, the ALLOCOPT parameter tells Control-D to store the report output in a special communal CDAM dataset.

When handling MSGCLASS output, we recommend that you use the statement ALLOCOPT=JOBSDSN1. This will result in many MSGCLASS outputs being grouped together into one CDAM dataset that acts as a repository for these small outputs. Control-D takes care of the allocation and creation of these "super" CDAMs as they fill up.

The ALLOCOPT parameter is coded in the generic decollating mission parameters in the PRINT/CDAM field as shown below:
