  • Maximum length for each parameter: 8 characters.

Unit

In system-managed storage environments, use this parameter to specify information to the ACS routines and installation exits, to help them determine the SMS Classes for the corresponding data set and decide whether it is to be SMS-managed or non-SMS-managed. In non-SMS environments, or for data sets that are non-SMS-managed, specify either a Generic Unit (such as 3390) or an Esoteric Unit (such as SYSDA), unless otherwise instructed.

  • Optional, unless otherwise noted.
  • Maximum length: 8 characters.

Volume

In system-managed storage environments, use this parameter to specify information to the ACS routines and installation exits, to help them determine the SMS Classes for the corresponding data set and decide whether it is to be SMS-managed or non-SMS-managed. In non-SMS environments, or for data sets that are non-SMS-managed, specify a real disk volume serial that matches the Unit parameter.

  • Optional, unless otherwise noted.
  • Maximum length: 6 characters.
