Step 5.5 – Activity File-Space Calculation

The Rule Activity File screen is displayed when this step is selected. Specify values for the parameters shown in the following table to calculate the required space allocation for the Rule Activity file.

Note: When specifying values for parameters or subparameters that include both unit and volser fields, you must either define both the Unit and Volser fields, or leave both of them blank. Do not enter a value for only one of them

Table 139 Calculating the space allocation for the Rule Activity file

Parameter

Description

Number of rules invocations per day.

The number of rule invocations per day.

  • Maximum: 9 digits.

Number of days invocation data to be retained

The number of days that invocation data is to be retained.

  • Maximum: 9 digits.

Data Comp

Data component of the Rule Activity file. This parameter has the following subparameters:

  • DUAL – Whether dual (mirror) image processing is implemented. The contents of the dual file are kept synchronized by Control‑M/Analyzer with the contents of the primary Rule Activity file. Use of the dual file provides data recovery capabilities if the primary Rule Activity file becomes damaged or inaccessible. Valid values are:
    — Y – Allocate a dual (mirror) image Rule Activity
         file.
    — N – Do not allocate a dual (mirror) image Rule
         Activity User Report List file.
  • DUALM – Whether execution terminates if a non-recoverable I/O error occurs while processing the dual image file. This parameter is only relevant if dual image file processing is implemented. Valid values are:
    — Y – Terminate execution if a nonrecoverable I/O
error occurs while processing the dual (mirror) image
         Rule Activity file.
    — N – Continue execution if a nonrecoverable I/O
error occurs while processing the dual (mirror) image
         Rule Activity file.
  • DUALST – Whether Control‑M/Analyzer performs timestamp checkpoint processing to ensure that the primary file and dual image file are fully synchronized. Enabling this option ensures greater data integrity at the expense of increasing I/O processing overhead.
    — Y – Perform timestamp checkpoint processing.
    — N – Do not perform timestamp checkpoint
         processing.

Index Comp

Index component of the Rule Activity file.

    — Y – Allocate a dual (mirror) image Rule Activity file.
BMC recommends that you do not use a
dual file for the Index Component.
    — N – Do not allocate a dual (mirror) image Rule
         Activity file.
    — N – Do not perform timestamp checkpoint
         processing.

Main Data

The primary data component.

This parameter has the following subparameters:

  • Unit type – The unit type to which data should be allocated.
  • Volser – Up to six volsers can be specified.

Main Index

The primary index component.

This parameter has the following subparameters:

  • Unit type – The unit type to which data should be allocated.
  • Volser – Up to six volsers can be specified.

Dual Data

The dual data component.

This parameter has the following subparameters:

  • Unit type – The unit type to which data should be allocated.
  • Volser – Up to six volsers can be specified.

Dual Index

The dual index component.

This parameter has the following subparameters:

  • Unit type – The unit type to which data should be allocated.
  • Volser – Up to six volsers can be specified.

The space requirements are calculated based on the values you specify.

To apply the allocation that has just been calculated, type Y in the Use this space allocation in subsequent installation steps ? field, and press Enter.
