The Control‑D IOA Access Method File data and index components contain many different types of records, such as User Report, $SYSDATA, Ruler and Note records.
The quantity of records created for each decollated report may vary. A single report decollated to 100 different users might produce one $SYSDATA and 100 User Report records. A large report spanning 200 CDAM files decollated for one user produces 200 $SYSDATA and one Report record.
Similarly, the length of each record created is variable. Record lengths may be affected, for example, by the number of CDAM page ranges for a report, Ruler definition complexity, or the number of Notes tagged to a report.
Therefore, calculating the capacity of a database for a given number of reports must take into account all of the above considerations and forecasts of Control‑D operation and usage in the future.
The following record lengths are typical for Database data and index components for Control‑D reports and $SYSDATA records:
Table 81 Record Lengths
Record Type |
Data |
Index |
---|---|---|
User Report Records |
300 Bytes |
110 Bytes |
$SYSDATA Records |
700 Bytes |
110 Bytes |
In addition to the capacity considerations mentioned above, IOA Access Method file components must contain free space for block split processing. BMC recommends that an additional 50 percent of free space be added to a database capacity calculation for this purpose.
