Special edit steps – DATA(*)

A Data(*) minor step is used to specify values for installation parameters and macros that can extend beyond a single line, and therefore cannot be specified in the parameter data entry screens.

This type of step displays a special screen that enables you to edit the specific lines associated with the parameter. When you exit this screen, the lines are saved into the target member in the selected environment.

This type of step is useful, for example, when you want to use attributes specified in a previous installation. In this case, you must edit the reference member after specifying the appropriate names in the Reference Library and Reference member fields. When the required lines are edited and the member is saved by pressing the PF03/PF15 key, the edited lines are saved in the target member in the selected environment.

When parameters extend beyond a single line, specify an asterisk (*) in column 72, and continue specifying the parameters on the second line in column 16.

Multiple macro invocations should not be separated by an asterisk in column 72.
