The resources are actual tape or cartridge devices. Devices are referred to by device number, or by specifying the quantity of devices and letting the IOA Archive server determine which to use or free. Each device defined to the IOA Archive server can be stopped and restarted separately.
F IOASMON,START MEDIA=media‑name,DEVICE=device‑number
Before starting a CART device, make sure that the device is online and ready in the system.
This command can be issued only when the devices are dedicated to the IOA Archive Server. If the devices are used dynamically, start a device by specifying device quantity, using the DEVQTY parameter.
F IOASMON,START MEDIA=media‑name,DEVQTY=number|ALL
where number can be any integer from 1 through 99, or the value ALL can be specified instead.
A DEVQTY parameter of (5,1), for example, indicates that a maximum of five devices can be used by the IOASMON, and that only one device can be used by the IOASMON for this media when the media is initialized. If more than one drive will always be needed, the value of the DEVQTY parameter should be specified as (5,2), (5,3), or more. This can be dynamically changed by issuing the following operator command:
F IOASMON,START MEDIA=media‑name,DEVQTY=number|ALL
where the DEVQTY parameter means the number of units to increase.
If you dynamically changed the DEVQTY parameter it will revert to the default with the next recycle of IOASMON or system IPL.
As each device becomes ready to process requests, an appropriate message is displayed on the operator console.
Before starting the devices, make sure enough devices are online and ready in the system.
F IOASMON,STOP MEDIA=media‑name,DEVICE=device‑number
When the device stops, an appropriate message is displayed on the operator console.
F IOASMON,STOP MEDIA=media‑name,DEVQTY=number|ALL
where number can be any integer from 1 through 99, or the value ALL can be specified instead.
As each device is stopped, an appropriate message is displayed on the operator console.
