Cases of JES Malfunction

The Control‑M monitor uses JES services to receive information about the status of the jobs running in the system. If Control‑M detects a critical error in JES operation, it shuts itself down. This precaution prevents incorrect submission of jobs due to a JES malfunction. In this case, one of the following highlighted, unrollable messages is displayed on the operator console:

CTM168S Control‑M SHUTTING DOWN  ‑ COMMUNICATION TO "JES" NOT AVAILABLE

CTM256S Control‑M SHUTTING DOWN  ‑ COMMUNICATION TO "JES" NOT AVAILABLE

At certain times when the JES subsystem is shut down, especially when doing a hot start, Control-M does not detect that JES was shut down. To avoid incorrect submission or post-processing of jobs, deactivate Control-M prior to shutting down JES and bring it back up after JES is brought back up.
