Setting up the Mail Destination Table (MAILDEST)

The Mail Destination table (MAILDEST) contains a list of names, addresses and groups to whom e–mail messages can be sent. The Mail Destination table is loaded during the initialization of the Control‑M monitor. It can also be loaded using operator command NEWMAILDST. For more information about loading the Mail Destination table, see Loading a New Dynamic Destination Table (IOADEST).

When modifications are made to the Mail Destination table, it must be refreshed. For more information, see Refreshing the Mail Destination Table (MAILDEST).

The options in the table are available for specifying specific addresses using Control-M DO SHOUT, SHOUT WHEN, and DO MAIL parameters (and also within the Mail Destination table itself).

Table 88 Options for Specify Addresses

Option

Description

Using full mail addresses

Complete addresses are specified (for example, GEORGE_SMITH@MAINCOMPANY.COM). You may want to use this option for specifying recipients that do not receive mail from you on a regular basis.

Using the default suffix

The name of the recipient is specified (for example, GEORGE_SMITH), and the default company suffix is assumed (appended to the end of the recipient name to create a complete mail address). The company suffix is stored in the Mail Destination table. You may want to use this option for internal company mail, because the company suffix is the same for all internal recipients.

Using nicknames

A short name for the recipient is specified (for example, GEORGE), whose complete name is defined in the Mail Destination table. You may want to use this option for specifying recipients to whom you send mail frequently, but do not belong to the company.

Distribution lists can also be set up in the Mail Destination table.
