File Definition Statements

When allocating and formatting an IOA Access Method file (that is, using utility IOADBF), a library member containing IOA Access Method File Definition statements is read.

These statements define an IOA Access Method file’s physical and logical attributes, such as dataset name, unit, volume parameters, space parameters, record key length (for IOA Access Method file index components), and whether additional file extents are allocated automatically or manually when the current file extent is full. The members reside in the IOA INSTWORK library.

The IOA Access Method File Definition statement for Control‑D’s History User Report list components can be found in the DEFHST and DEFHSTI members in the IOA INSTWORK library.

The IOA Access Method File Definition statement for Control‑M/Analyzer’s Group Definition components are the DEFGRPD and DEFGRPI members in the IOA INSTWORK library.

The attributes of the IOA Access Method file are kept in the file control block. If you need to change these parameters after the file is created, you can first modify the Definition Statements member and then run the IOADBF utility with FUNC=CHANGE.

BMC highly recommends that you make the modifications to the Definition Statements member using the ICE Customization activity, in order to take advantage of its space calculation and job formatting steps. Using ICE, specify the product code (for example, IOA, CTM) in the Customization screen, select Product Customization, and then select major step 2, "Customize Dataset Parameters." Perform the minor steps in order for each file you want to modify.

For more information on IOA Access Method File Definition statements, see the IOADBF utility in the INCONTROL for z/OS Utilities Guide.
