Defining a Control-M for Messaging connection profile for Kafka

This procedure describes how to define a Control-M Messaging connection profile for Kafka.

Before you begin

Do the following:

• Ensure that you install Kafka and the Kafka server is running. For more information, see https://kafka.apache.org/downloads
• Create a new folder such as Kafka client, download and unzip the following files to this folder:
  • kafka-jms-client-5.1.0.jar: Go to http://packages.confluent.io/maven/io/confluent/kafka-jms-client/5.1.0/kafka-jms-client-5.1.0.jar

    NOTE: You may need a license from Confluent.

  • All the jar files copied from the lib folder of the Kafka Server installation.

    NOTE: The Kafka Server software can be downloaded from https://kafka.apache.org/downloads.

  • jose4j-0.6.3.jar: Go to https://jar-download.com/artifacts/org.bitbucket.b_c/jose4j/0.6.3/source-code

To define a Control-M for Messaging connection profile for Kafka:

1. From CCM, select Control-M for Messaging, right-click, select Messaging Connection Profile Management and then click .
2. In the Step 1: Select the Connection Profile General Parameters dialog box, do the following:
   • In the Connection Profile Name field, type the name of the connection profile that you want to add.
   • In the Messaging Server field, select Other JMS Server,
3. Click Next.
4. In the Step2 Define Runtime Environment dialog box, type the JRE Home Path, or click Browse, and then click Next.
5. In the Step 3 Define parameters needed to connect to the selected messaging server dialog box, do the following:
   • Add JDNI settings by clicking Advanced JDNI Settings and type the keys and values, as described in JDNI settings for a Kafka connection profile.
   • In the Client Jars Root Directory field, click Browse to locate the folder of the Kafka client that you previously created, for example, C:\kafka-jms-client-jars.
6. Browse the Kafka client created folder and add the jar files, by clicking Client Jars Table.

   EXAMPLE: The list of client jars:

   kafka-clients-2.1.0.jar

   jose4j-0.6.3.jar

   scala-library-2.11.12.jar

   jackson-core-2.9.7.jar

7. In the Topic Connection Factory, type TopicConnectionFactory.
8. Click Next.
9. In the Step 4 Define Queue Parameters window, do the following:
   • In the Type field, select Topic.
   • In the Queue/Topic name, type the topic name, as configured in the Advanced JDNI Settings
10. Review the connection profile details, and click Test.

    If the test completed successfully, the connection profile is validated.
