BMC Performance Manager Solutions
Release Notes Version: 2.4.00 May 31, 2007 Supporting BMC Performance Manager Solutions, Express Solutions, and PATROL® Integration Solutions BMC Software is releasing version 2.4.00 of the BMC Performance Manager Solutions. This document provides an overview of all Performance Managers, and it provides detailed information for those Performance Managers that do not have their own release notes.
NOTE: Before you install a Performance Manager, check the Customer Support website at http://www.bmc.com/support_home for updated information about this version. Flashes, technical bulletins, and resolutions on the support site contain details about any fixes that were issued for this version after its release.
Overview of BMC Performance Manager Solutions
A Performance Manager (also known as a BMC Performance Manager Solution) extends the capabilities of the BMC Performance Manager Portal product (the Portal) by adding monitoring features for specific environments. Performance Managers provide monitoring results in the form of parameters that are grouped into application classes. They also provide event notification. By customizing parameter thresholds, you can tailor event notification to suit your needs.
This release contains the following types of Performance Managers:
Performance Managers—These Performance Managers remotely monitor and store IT element data in the Portal. PATROL Integration Performance Managers (also known as BMC Performance Manager Integration with PATROL)—These Performance Managers remotely monitor and store PATROL Agent Knowledge Module® (KM) data into the Portal. This integration enables you to view Performance Manager and PATROL data in one user interface. Included Performance Managers
Table 1 describes the Performance Managers that are included on the BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD. The table also lists the names of the Performance Manager Archive (PAR) files associated with each Performance Manager.
Included PATROL Integration Performance Managers
Table 2 describes the PATROL integration Performance Managers that are also included on the BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD. The table also lists the names of the PAR files associated with each Performance Manager, and provides the version numbers of the PATROL KM products that correspond to each Performance Manager. For more information about these, see the BMC Performance Manager Integration with PATROL Release Notes.

Downloading Performance Manager Solutions from the web
This section contains instructions for downloading the BMC Performance Manager Solutions from the BMC Software Electronic Product Download (EPD) website, http://www.bmc.com/ega/. You might want to print these instructions or save this file to reference later.
If you are installing the BMC Performance Manager Portal and BMC Performance Manager Solutions products at the same time, download both products before you begin installing the Portal. If the BMC Performance Manager Solutions are downloaded and available during the Portal installation, the Portal installation can install the solutions and automatically load the PAR files.
If you have already installed the Portal, you must install the BMC Performance Manager Solutions and load their PAR files manually. See "Installing Performance Managers".
To download the product from the web
1 Create a temporary directory on your computer that is different from the directory to which the BMC Portal archive was extracted.
2 From the EPD website, http://www.bmc.com/ega/, access the EPD web page for BMC Performance Manager Infrastructure and Solutions.
3 Click BMC Performance Manager Solutions.
4 Select the file to download:
BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD - .exe file format BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD - .tar file format 5 Click the Continue button.
6 To download documentation, right-click the documents that you want to download, and then select Save Target As.
7 Click Download Product File.
8 Extract all files from the downloaded file into the temporary directory that you created in step 1 on page 8.
9 Using these release notes and the separate release notes (if any) for the solutions, review the installation requirements and installation instructions, as described in "Installing Performance Managers".
Installing Performance Managers
A Performance Manager resides within a Performance Manager Archive file (PAR file). Before you can use a Performance Manager, you must load its PAR file into the Portal. If you are upgrading from a previous version of a Performance Manager, skip to "Upgrading from earlier versions".
When loading a PAR file, choose one of the following methods:
You can install it while installing the Portal. Installing the PAR file from the CD automatically loads the PAR file into the Portal. For information about running the installation utility, see the BMC Portal Installation Guide. You can manually load the PAR file from the following locations by following the procedure, "To manually load a PAR file from the Portal." — the BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD
— the directory in which you downloaded the PAR file from the BMC Software Electronic Product Download (EPD) site
For more information about loading PAR files, see the BMC Performance Manager Portal Monitoring and Management Guide.
To manually load a PAR file from the Portal
1 Place the Performance Manager (PAR) file in a known location on your file system or have the BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD available for use.
2 Log on to the Portal with Portal administrator credentials, and select the Portal tab.
3 Under Tasks in the navigation pane, select Performance Managers to open the Performance Managers page.
4 Click Upload to open the Performance Managers–Import page.
5 Click Browse to open a file selection dialog box, and select a PAR file from one of the following sources:
the location of the PAR file that you chose in Step 1. \BMC Performance Manager Solutions\PM_name.par on the BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD The PAR file names are listed in Table 1.
\PATROL Integration with BMC Performance Manager\PM_name.par on the BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD The PAR file names are listed in Table 2.
6 Click Open on the file selection dialog box.
7 Click Upload.
The Portal installs the PAR file in the database. The Performance Manager appears in the list of Performance Managers and has a status of Published. Now, when you add an element to monitor in the Portal, you can choose the PAR file that you loaded.
For information about removing PAR files from the BMC Performance Manager Portal, see the BMC Performance Manager Portal Monitoring and Management Guide.
Upgrading from earlier versions
If you install or import a PAR file that replaces an earlier version of that PAR file on your Portal, the new version of this Performance Manager appears on the Performance Managers page with a status of Unpublished. The procedures in this section
change the status of the newer version to Publishing and then Published update the affected infrastructure elements with the new version of the application classes in the new Performance Manager remove the earlier version of the Performance Manager’s PAR file When an upgrade occurs to an existing application class, the following information is migrated to the new version of the application class:
application class properties and user configurations parameter threshold settings parameter history data For a list of any changes to Performance Managers that occur during the upgrade process, see each Performance Manager’s “Upgrade issues” section in this document (or separate release notes).
For more information about upgrading Performance Managers, see the BMC Performance Manager Portal Monitoring and Management Guide and the BMC Portal Installation Guide.
To upgrade a Performance Manager to version 2.4.00 during a Portal upgrade
1 During the installation of the Portal, select Performance Managers from the BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD.
2 After installation, log on to the BMC Portal with Portal administrator credentials and click the Portal tab.

The status of the new version of each Performance Manager changes to Publishing and then Published.
The status of the earlier version of each Performance Manager changes to Upgrading and then the Performance Manager is removed from the page.
To upgrade to version 2.4.00 by importing a PAR file
1 Place the PAR file for the Performance Manager in a location that you can access through your file system:
Download the Performance Manager file from the EPD Download website to your chosen location. Insert the BMC Performance Manager Solutions CD in a disk drive that you can access from your file system. 2 Log on to the Portal with Portal administrator credentials, and select the Portal tab.
